OPEN HOUSE 2012



There is the Open House II at PCC on 3 September,2012. A lot of activities are conducted and exhibitions displayed for public. PCC students from every Teaching Center are encouraged to take part either in academic competitions or entertaining ones. High school students are invited to compete in such performance. The competitive activities include cooking Thai food, singing, public speaking, and ASEAN quiz. There are also a Thai welcoming dance and a few shows from every TC on the stage. Thanks very much for your cooperation - every helpful PCC student, guest visitors, and PCC colleagues.

ENGLISH CAMP



Between August 16-17,2012 PCC organizes an English Day Camp for 97 students at Deebuk Phangnga Wittayayon School. It's a medium-sized mixed high school situated in the middle of Muang District.The campers are tenth graders from 3 classes and the trainers are 4 foreigner teachers who teach EFL at the school. Two of them are American from New York City and Boston, a young gentleman from German and a lady trainer from Philippines. 
The topics for this camp includes daily expressions, numbers, dates, colors, time, directions, hobbies, sports, our school, Thailand, our province, our world and ASEAN nations.

BURMESE MINI BOOK




     Between August 8-9, 2012 there is a workshop for creating a Burmese mini book. We invite two helpful teachers from a high school in Phangnga  town to compose and edit texts in various groups such as Burmese alphabets, vocabulary groups, and daily expressions. Finally, Miss Kanokrat Uicheng manages to relay Burmese accent into Thai scripts and Miss Nang Soe Thandar also records her pronunciation for all texts in the mini book. Hopefully, this book can be a self-study guide for those interested people in our community later.

TEACHER DEVELOPMENT


There is a two-day seminar for both PCC teachers and invited ones at Kao Lak Merlin Resort, Takaopa, Phangnga between August 6-7, 2012. The seminar is about how to write lesson plans and develop curriculums. There are about 50 teachers participated in the workshop and we are very grateful to Ajarn Rattapon Promsa-ard from Phuket Rajabhat University. He is our kind and helpful trainer.

ASEAN COMMUNITY
       "At the 12th ASEAN Summit in January 2007, the Leaders affirmed their strong commitment to accelerate the establishment of an ASEAN Community by 2015 and signed the Cebu Declaration on the Acceleration of the Establishment of an ASEAN Community by 2015.

       The ASEAN Community is comprised of three pillars, namely the ASEAN Political-Security Community, ASEAN Economic Community and ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community. Each pillar has its own Blueprint..."

Establishment

"The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN,was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand, with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by the Founding Fathers of ASEAN, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
       Brunei Darussalam then joined on 7 January 1984, Viet Nam on 28 July 1995, Lao PDR and Myanmar on 23 July 1997, and Cambodia on 30 April 1999, making up what is today the ten Member States of ASEAN."

PCC provides two types of learning to local people - Associate Degree program and Short Course. The former includes Business Computer, Local Governing, Information Communication Technology, Early Childhood Education, and General Management. Presently, there are about 600 students in all Centers.

       Short Courses are organized for groups of people in various interest such as Driving, Using Computer, Ballroom Dancing, English for Communication, Thai Massage, Crocheting, Cooking, Typing, Flower Arrangement, and Rubber Tapping.
       We also have annual activities, for example Wai Kru Ceremony, Orientation and Enrollment, Academic Preparation, and Sports Day.
       Phangnga Community College was officially established on October 8, 2004. The first semester began in March, 2006 and the first graduation for 125 students was organized on February 8, 2009. So far, there have been 340 graduates in various Associate Degree programs.
       As a matter of facts, PCC students are adults age between 20s–50s and most of them are people who work on weekdays so classes are performed only on weekends. Normally, there are 15 weeks per semester and it takes 7 semesters for a student to finish the program.

PCC is situated in a small and peaceful District called Thapput. There are about 25,000 people in the area and their main career is mostly agriculture. It is about 90 kilometers from Phuket island and an hour drive from Phuket International Airport. 
       Currently, Mr. Prapan Wong-panit is Chair Board and Mr. Manit Wimuttisuk is Director of PCC working along with 15 teachers and 15 office workers.
       There are 5 Teaching Centers in different Districts namely: 1) Koh Yao Wittaya School and Ao Ka Por School, in Koh Yao District  2) Takao Pa Senanukul School in Takao Pa District  3) Baan Klang School in Kuraburi District  4) Thaimuang Tambol Municipality in Thaimuang District  5) Phangnga Community College in Thapput District.

A Community College is an educational institute in Thailand. It is under the auspices of Office of the Higher Education Commission(OHEC), Ministry of Education. Currently, there are 20 community colleges throughout the country including Bureau of Community College Administration(BCCA) in Bangkok where Ms Sunandha Sangthong is the Director.
       In the North, there are 5 Community Colleges – Maehongson, Tak, Phichi, Phrae and Nan. There are 4 in the Northeast namely Nongbualamphu, Mukdahan, Buriram, and Yasothon. Sakaeo and Trat Community Colleges are located in the East whereas Uthaithani and Samutsakorn Community Colleges in the Central part.
      There are 8 Community Colleges in the South. They are situated in Ranong, Phangnga, Satun, Yala, Narathiwat, Pattani, and Songkla.

Our province is called Phangnga. It is located on the southwest coast of Thailand, between two famous tourist attractions – Phuket and Krabi. There are 8 Districts in the province: 1)Muang Phangnga 2)Koh Yao 3)Kapong 4)Takaothung 5)Takaopa 6)Kuraburi 7)Thapput  8)Tai Muang.

       Phangnga population is about 250,000. The majority work in agriculture and the main crops are rubber plantation, palm gardens, and cash crops. There are also tourism industry along Andaman coast and in Phangnga Bay.
       The province was well-known nationwide and worldwide since December 2004 because of tsunami disaster. After that happening, the area was visited regularly and the Andaman coast community was granted a lot of supports both from inside and outside the kingdom.

March 10, 2009


There was a one-day workshop organizing at PCC new building. The workshop aimed for high school students, non-formal education students, Guidance Teachers, and Academic Assistants in the province and nearby districts to discuss about the future direction of higher education and how PCC can help provide them.
It was a good opportunity for us to introduce them ourselves and our associate programs as well as short courses.

Sunday, February 8, 2009.

It was a grand event for everybody at PCC-both students and the college staff. There were two important incident on the day. The former was the official opening of the new building called "Wittaya Borikan Centre" and the latter the first graduation of 125 students.Many honourable guests included Phangnga Governor-Mr Yiamsuriya Palusuk, Deputy Secretary-General-Mrs.Chantavit Sujatanond, Minister of Education- Mr Jurin Laksanawisit, Dirtector Bureau of Community College Administration- Miss Sunanta Sangthong, and Boards from other community colleges as well as their staff.The most distinguished Chairman in the occasion was Privy Councillor-His Excellency Mr.Kasem Watanachai. He kindly spent his Sunday visiting PCC and presenting all students their Associate Degree Certificates.It was our appreciation to welcome every guests and congratulate our first graduates.

Chulalongkorn Day - 23 October 2008

PCC staff joined Chulalongkorn Day with other different Departments in Thapput District. We always present wreaths in front of King Chulalongkorn's sculpture to pay high respect to him.

Our New Building







There was an informal opening ceremony of the new building on 18 September, 2008.
Mr Nikorn Chan-ampai, Thapput District Chief, was kindly presiding over the event and a number of college committee attending the incident.
After the religious session, Manora dance was performed by a group of students from Thapput Wittaya School as a blessing. Later, lunch was served courteously.

Wai Kru - 3 August 2008



There was a traditional festivity called "Wai Kru" for PCC students on August 3rd, 2008.
It was organized for those who attend classes at Thapput and Satree Phangnga teaching units.
The event has been set up annually throughout the country before the new academic year begins.
Its purposes are for students to pay high respect to teachers and promise to obey and study hard in the coming year.

What is ONESQA?



ONESQA stands for the Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment(Public Organization).
"It is established with the aims of developing the criteria and methods for external quality assessment; assessing educational achievements in order to check the quality of educational institutions, bearing in mind the objectives, principles and guidelines for educational provision at each level as stipulated in the national education law.
External quality assessment of all educational institutions will be made at least once every five years since the last assessment.The assessment outcomes will be duly submitted to the agencies concerned and the general public."
PCC had welcomed a group of ONESQA June 15-16, 2008. After hard-working and well- prepared, everybody was eventually relieved because the assessment result was announced "Acceptable"

Our new Teaching Unit



The new teaching unit is located at Ao Kapor School, Koh Yao Yai, Koh Yao District. There is a class of Associate Degree of Applied Science in Business Computer consisting of 40 students. All of them are local people and had finished their high school for years. A few has just finished Mattayom 6. It's a better choice for them to further their studies in their own community with less expenses.

Our New Teachers

We have welcomed two new teachers lately. They are both gentlemen and good-looking. Let me introduce them to you all :
The first one is Mr. Wiwatchai Phimhorm, from Roi Et province.He graduated his Master Degree in Philosophy from Madras Christian College, India.
The other is Acting, 2LT.Sayan Panbut, from Haad Yai, Songkla. He received Bachelor Degree in Animal Science from Nakhon Sri Thammarat Campus, Rajamangala Institute of Technology. He graduated Master of Science in Animal Science from Prince of Songkla University.

If anyone has got questions about philosophy or animal science, do not hesitate to consult either of them at PCC. They will be very happy to advise you.

A Trip to USA

Between 13-23 September, 2007 Mr Manit Wimuttisuk - Director of PCC had joined the group of CC committee to visit USA community colleges in Los Angeles, California, and Las Vegas, Nevada.The American Community Colleges are as follows :
